Hall of Fame broadcaster Ernie Harwell was revealed that Harwell had been diagnosed with an incurable cancer of the bile duct. Ernie is 91 years old, He is a former American sportscaster and his long career calling play-by-play of Major League Baseball games. On September 3, 2009, He revealed the diagnosis in Friday's edition of the Detroit Free Press.
In January 2009, the American Sportscasters Association ranked Ernie Harwell 16th place on its list of Top 50 Sportscasters of All Time. He was in the Detroit Tigers broadcast booth from 1960 until he retired in 2002. Harwell called balls, strikes, and home runs on radio and television.
According to ESPN Sports, "We don't know how long this lasts," Harwell said, according to the Detriot Free Press, which first reported Harwell's illness. "It could be a year, it could be much less than a year, much less than half a year. Who knows? Whatever's in store, I'm ready for a new adventure. That's the way I look at it.
